We heard there were thunderstorms and hail in GuanhZhou on Monday. Luckily, by the time we boarded our flight Tuesday morning in Nanchang to GuangZhou it was just sprinkling here. It cleared up soon after we arrived but it is expected to rain on and off a bit.
We walked around Shamain Island where the US Consulate used to be in GuangZhou. After a stop at Lucy's restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner, we did a little shopping at a small store and met some English teachers, one Australian, the other Chinese. We ate a Lucy's a number of times on our past trip. At that point in our adoption trip, we were ready for some western food. During this trip, we were impressed with how open the girls were to trying new foods. So much of the food we ate in China was truly farm to table - the freshness is hard to beat.
Later we stopped at Starbucks and walked past an elementary school where kids were still studying at 7 pm! We also saw the medical clinic - one of the many stops when we stayed here for a week when we adopted Lian getting all the paperwork we needed to return to the States. We ended the day with our own private viewing of the movie Frozen in our hotel room.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) we are off to Hong Kong via train. Thursday we head back home. Or as Lian says, 'home, home, home' to distinguish from going back to the hotel. She is starting to miss her friends at school. Amelia is about ready to head home too but is also curious about shopping in Hong Kong. We did not end up shopping much in GuangZhou.
